Buying some basic paper cutter shapes (paper punches) can be the fastest way to craft a nice paper flower. You can buy circles and hearts pre cut paper shapes if you don’t want to invest on those paper punches. You can make a flower with petals using repetitive shapes. Use a heart paper cutter shapes to form the petals. Cut several heart shapes and place them over each other forming a flower shaping mat. Once you have all the petals around each other, press on the pointy end
of the heart and with a roll tool ( looks like a stick with a ball on the end) add a cup like shape to lined hearts. After press the round part of the heart (the petal) with the roll tool to give them a round shape. Do this to all the petals and assemble the flower using adhesive to keep all the petals in place.

Paper mache shapes – Ideas to make some art
One nice paper mache shapes to make is a bowl made of paper shapes. You can do it out of newspaper and tissue paper as the top layers.
1. For making the bowl, first choose a bowls with a shape that you enjoy.
2. Turn the bowl up side down and grease it with vaseline or any kind of jelly made up of petroleum (like paraffin for example). This step is to make sure the paper will not stick on the bowl when you remove it from the mold.
3. Put the whole project over a tray to make it easy to move it around when you finish it and put it to dry out.
4. Tear a newspaper into small pieces. Rip it on small stripes. You will need hundreds of this small papers. So, a lot of patience on this part.
5. You can use flour with water or wallpaper paste to adhere the paper to the mold. The wallpaper paste is not expensive. One tablespoon of it mixed with water will be enough for this project.
If you want to be more natural and avoid contact with chemicals, choose the flower and water paste.
6. Put the layers of wet paper together and smooth it with a brush. This will bond all the pieces of paper together. For this you will cover the form with the newspaper pieces one at the time covering it with glue or paste.
Use a brush to apply this.
7. Do it layer by layer waiting for each layer to dry out properly. Add several layers. The more you add the more resistant will the the bowl.
8. Let it dry for a week at least before you take it out of the form.
9. After is done, you can paint it or complement the decor with a few layers of tissue paper. You can choose several types of paint for doing it but the best might be pva paint or acrylic paint.
Finally, as a final step, spray the paper mache shapes bowl with a sealer or varnish.
So many other things you can do with old newspapers that you have accumulated on your house!! Start using them to make some art!
